What are the needs of textured hair?

What problems do textured hair face?

Textured hair tends to be drier than straight hair because the shape of the hair prevents sebum from flowing properly to hydrate its lengths. By its nature, textured hair is therefore more fragile and reacts more to external aggressions. If it is not protected and well cared for, it risks being less silky, more fragile and therefore more brittle.

The Basic Needs of Textured Hair

A need for nutrition

Nourished hair is strengthened from the very core of the hair fiber. It is more resistant to external aggressions, has fewer split ends, and is less prone to breakage. In fact, nutrition helps to tone the hair.

The nourishing ingredients often used in haircare are vegetable oils that strengthen and nourish the hair fiber as well as vegetable butters that intensely nourish and restore shine to the hair.

A need for hydration

Hydration helps provide elasticity and suppleness to hair. When the hair fiber is hydrated, it is softer. Hair is then less prone to frizz.

The must-have ingredients needed to moisturize hair are aloe vera, which moisturizes and soothes the scalp, and glycerin.

A need for protection

Since textured hair is more fragile, it needs more protection. Ideal ingredients for protecting textured hair include keratin, collagen, creatine, and certain plant oils.

As previously explained, curls react more to stress, resulting in a loss of protein in the hair fiber. It is imperative to use heating appliances that are suitable for textured hair. Depending on the appliance, certain drying techniques can have an impact on the overall well-being of the hair. We also recommend applying a heat protectant to protect the hair fiber from the heat caused by a heating appliance.
